Twynham School A-Level Results 2018 - Culmination of yet another superb year
Twynham School celebrated the culmination of yet another superb year with an outstanding set of A-Level results. Whilst the overall pass rate was very close to 100%, Twynham’s top performers did exceptionally well with eighteen students gaining at least 144 UCAS points which is the equivalent of three A grades at A-level.
Lawrence Bayne, Bridget Butler, Jacob Chinery, Mikael Di Re, Victoria Frugone Clarke, Catherine Howe, Joshua Nation, Sara Noroozi and Harry Rose were amongst the very top performers who achieved at least 3 grade As.
Just a few of the destinations of our students include: Lawrence will be studying Chemical Engineering at Loughborough; Bridget is going to Imperial College (London) to study medicine; Jacob will be reading mathematics at Christ Church College, Oxford; Mikael is heading to the University of Birmingham to study Theoretical Physics and Applied Mathematics; Victoria will be studying medicine but is yet to decide from a range of offers; Catherine is heading to the University of Bath to study pharmacy; Joshua is going to study chemistry with an industrial placement at Southampton; Sara will also have a placement as she studies Chemical Engineering at Bath and Harry is to read International Relations and Modern Languages at Exeter.
Mikel Di Re achieved a stunning A* in chemistry, physics and mathematics whilst Jacob Chinery achieved an A* in chemistry and physics to go alongside the A*s he had already achieved in mathematics and further mathematics having sat them a year early. Victoria Frugone Clarke and Sara Noroozi each achieved 4 straight A grades. Both sat exams in biology, chemistry and mathematics, whist Victoria’s additional A grade came in psychology and Sara’s in physics. Harry Rose gained an A* in business studies alongside an A grade in government and politics and an A grade in Spanish. Lawrence Bayne, Bridget Butler, Catherine Howe and Joshua Nation all gained 3 A grades. Lawrence in biology, chemistry and mathematics; Catherine in chemistry, mathematics and psychology; Josh in chemistry, geography and psychology and Bridget in biology, chemistry and mathematics alongside an A* in the EPQ.
In an educational climate in which the arts subjects are increasingly being removed from a schools’ curriculum, Twynham is proud that it continues to support students who have aspirations to gain places at the country’s very best specialist arts colleges. Austin Carroll will be studying the trumpet at Trinity College Oxford and Gabriel Heathman has gained a place at the internationally famous Northern Ballet School in Manchester.
In addition to these individual achievements the school is celebrating impressive headline results with nearly a quarter of all grades being A*/A and an increase, to 54%, of all grades being awarded A*-B. A particular highlight for the school is the impressive results for the Extended Project Qualification which is graded similarly to, and is considered the equivalent of, half an A-level. The EPQ is an additional qualification that is valued highly by universities for its rigorous academic content and the autonomous working that is required. A stunning 73% of students achieved the EPQ with the top A*-B grades.

With such strong competition for places at the very best universities and for the top apprenticeships I am also extremely pleased at the increase in the number of students getting the top A*-B grades. This will allow even more students to access the very best opportunities. I’d like to congratulate all our students and to thank their parents for all their support and our teachers and support staff for all their dedication and hard work. We wish all of our students the very best for their futures.”
