Outstanding GCSE results for Twynham School - Again!

We are celebrating another superb set of results today.

Mr Taylor, our Headteacher, commented: “I’m absolutely delighted with our students’ GCSE results and at a time when the government has deliberately made GCSEs harder, our students have risen to that challenge and have excelled".

A stunning 24 students gained the top grades (either 7+ or A/A*) for at least eight of their subjects. These were; Maisie Aldridge, Ben Atiako-Hall, Olivia Ayres, William Bowater, Luke Brooke, Amelia Cummins, Elanor George, Grace Goodyer, Cameron Harris, Bethany Harrison, Thomas Holmes, Leila Kerley, Isabel Langridge, Eleanor Lavis, Annie Lee, Oliver Levick, Ellis O’Brien, Marco Pagnanelli, Jamie Payne, Jemma Phillips, James Richardson, George Robbin, Molly Roberts and Daniel Tomes.

Particular mention should go to Leila Kerley and Jemma Phillips who gained the very top, grade 9, in 10 of their subjects. Nationally only 0.2% of the students were expected to achieve this.

Overall, an incredible 85% of the students gained 9 – 4 (A*-C) in English and 75% gained 9 – 4 (A*-C) in mathematics meaning that 72% of students gained the equivalent of 9 – 4 (A*-C) in both English and mathematics. 71% of the students gained five or more A*-C (or equivalent 4+) grades including English and mathematics which matches Twynham’s record results of the last two years, even with the more rigorous examinations in most subjects.

The changes to GCSEs have seen many schools having to narrow their curriculum. It is particularly pleasing that students at Twynham School have achieved grade 8/9s and A*s not only in the core subjects of English, mathematics and science but in art, drama, dance, design and technology, languages, music, PE and a range of other subjects.

In a truly comprehensive school, these are outstanding achievements and we would like to take this opportunity to congratulate our students and to thank our teachers, support staff and parents for enabling them to do so well.
