SSIF Leadership Project - Improving and Developing Effective and Sustainable School-Led Leadership

We are delighted to say that Twynham Teaching School has been successful in its SSIF bid: Improving and developing effective and sustainable schoolled leadership: An evidence-led integrated leadership development and peer review programme that will lead to more effective school leadership practice and sustained improvement in schools in Bournemouth, Dorset and Poole.

The purpose of this project is to sustainably improve school leadership, improve standards and pupil outcomes through the implementation of leadership training, coaching and support, a programme of peer review, leading to the implementation of evidence based interventions and a programme of evaluation.

We will develop the essential skills needed for school improvement and embed effective peer review processes at every level so that evidence and data is used to systemically review and address weakness and share effective practice within and between schools. The programme will be delivered in two phases: firstly focusing on identified leaders to lead to rapid improvement by focusing on individual school improvement issues and then sharing the approach with wider school leadership. Primary phase schools in RI with demonstrable engagement in existing school improvement activities have been selected providing confidence in their commitment.

The project is supported by a wide range of partners from across the region, including all teaching schools in the area. The desired outcomes are to improve pupil outcomes, in particular reading, writing and maths at KS2 and to reduce the number of schools judged as RI. Through evidence-based approaches, schools will improve the quality of self-evaluation and effectiveness of systems and structures, which together will provide a better framework for improving the quality of teaching for all.

Longer term, the successful project will support greater leadership capacity, expertise and effectiveness at school, MAT and regional level, ensuring sustainability across the education system.
