The qualification consists of three components that will give students the opportunity to develop broad knowledge and understanding of engineering sectors and technical skills in designing and making.

Components 1 and 2 are assessed through internal assessment.  Component 3 builds on the skills and knowledge learnt in components 1 and 2 and takes the form of a board set assignment which is externally marked.

Who is the course for?

This course is for those who have an interest in acquiring skills and knowledge relevant to Engineering.

You should:

- Have an interest in how things work.

- Have an interest in design

Be friendly and be able to get on with all kinds of people.

Please note that this course can be taught at either Level 1 or Level 2 standard depending on the preference of the individual student.

What will I do on the course?

You will study sector specific knowledge and skills in a practical learning environment including:

  • Development of key engineering practical and technical skills such as computer aided design, measurement and disassembly
  • Investigating the different engineering sectors and how they relate to each other
  • Learning the stages of planning and implementing an engineering project
  • Development of the skills needed to respond to an engineering brief
