If you enjoy sport and have a passion for physical activity, then this course if perfect for you. Combining theoretical units with practical based experiences enables us to enhance our knowledge and contextualise our learning through a vocational course.

Assessment:

The qualification consists of three components that will give students the opportunity to explore different sporting aspects. These include developing an understanding of physiology and anatomy, the use of technology in sport, components of fitness, along with practical participation in sport, applying rules and regulations and identifying ways to further improve sporting performance.

The course is assessed through two different methods, internal assessment where students will sit two Pearson set assignments in class under exam conditions over the course of a four-week block.  Students will also sit one external exam, under exam conditions which is set and marked by Pearson.

Component 1: Preparing Participants to Take Part in Sport and Physical Activity

Component 2: Taking Part and Improving Other Participants Sporting Performance

Component 3: Developing Fitness to Improve Other Participants Performance in Sport and Physical Activity

Teaching and Learning

Lessons will be delivered through a blended approach of different methods, combining practical skills with theoretical learning will create an opportunity for learners to apply theoretical knowledge to tangible learning experiences.

You will study sport specific knowledge and skills in a practical learning environment including:

  • The development of core knowledge and understanding of the body and its response to exercise, the body’s ability to increase its fitness levels and the attributes of a sports leader.
  • The development and application of skills such as: analysing research information, planning, leading and evaluating, presenting, communicating and problem solving
  • The development of self, peer and professional analysis. You will learn though a well-balanced range of methods, which combine practical skills with theoretical learning. Your lessons will take place in classrooms; however, you will also use our full range of college sports facilities, both indoor and outdoor
